PTA
The PTA are a proud bunch of parents who go about raising money for the school to give all Great Wood children amazing educational and extra-curricular experiences. Events we run each year include: Halloween and Spring Discos, Bale Sales Christmas Fair and a Summer Festival. Another means of fund raising is holding a Sponsored event or Prize Draw Raffle, where everyone is encouraged to get involved.
The funds raised have helped enable the school to provide extra visits and visitors to school, helped purchase IT equipment, new playground equipment and to maintain the woodland area and dipping pond. We also contribute to school trips for every year group and after-school projects too, including the Gardening Club, Cooking Club, and the Sports Teams.
All staff and parents are automatically members of the PTA. Grandparents can help out too. The PTA has to operate under a constitution, in part to maintain its charitable status which enables us to use Gift Aid and accept corporate donations. There is an AGM where some official roles are elected, however, the PTA invites as many as possible to participate, volunteer to help out at events and support the Great Wood community. It is super to work with like-minded adults to put smiles on a lot of young faces; if you can do anything to help the PTA please get in touch contact <pta@greatwood.lancs.sch.uk> or leave details at the school office.
The PTA also works to support communication between parents – there is a Parents of Current Great Wood children facebook page – and we try to arrange Whats App groups for each year group. ( Note – negative comments about individuals or school lead to an immediate participation bar.)
The PTA organising group meet once each half term and use Social Media to keep in touch in between. The teachers are also heavily involved and help out wherever and whenever they can, so it really is a team effort. We aim high… and make a difference!
