Times Tables
Times Tables
Key Learning for Maths states that it is expected that children will know all multiplication and corresponding division facts for up to 12 x 12 by the end of Year 4. As of 2020, all children in Year 4 will undertake a Multiplication Table Check in June to test this key learning.
Maths Whizz Wristbands
At Great Wood, we have an incentive and celebration scheme in place to congratulate children on securing their multiplication and division facts. From Year 2 onwards, depending on the readiness of the child, the children will be tested each week. After passing three consecutive timed, written tests, they will receive a Maths Whizz band. These are given out at the end of each half term in a celebratory assembly.

Times Tables Rock Stars
At Great Wood, we subscribe to Times Tables Rock Stars, a fun and challenging online programme, designed to help children master the times tables and boost their recall speed. It is designed for bursts of daily practice, which is proven to be far more effective than spending hours once a week. Children in years 3, 4, 5 and 6 are given time in the school day to access this programme and we encourage children to practise at home too.
Please refer to the guidance below to log on at home.
How can you support your child with learning times tables?
The school has produced a booklet detailing the expectations for times tables per year group and links to websites and games you can play together to consolidate their knowledge and improve their recall of multiplication and division facts.
Copies of this booklet are available in the foyer.
